- 2011: she was diagnosed with a brain tumor that was wrapped around her vagus nerve - manages ability to speak, swallow, and eat
- Went through surgery believing she would never talk again
- Idea came to her while she was in recovery from her surgery to remove a brain tumor
- Held every June in Milan, IL - June of 2024 will be the 13th run
- Goal: Increase awareness and acceptance of autism - a neurological disorder that impacts 1 in 59 children
- Support local autism programs in the Quad Cities area
- Daughter is autistic
- 3rd yr student at UIowa
- In 2022 they became rental property owners
- Goal is to convert apartments into independent living units for autistic adults
